The Story of Pocket Creek
Horses to be enjoyed
Pocket Creek was purchased and named by Jennifer Wainwright in 2002. A small acreage on the outskirts of Rockhampton in Central Queensland, the little spread comprised deep alluvial flats and creeks lined with grand paperbarks and bluegum trees. Quickly planted to callide rhodes grass, secca stylo and butterfly pea, the pastures are highly suited to growing young horses and sustaining broodmares through the challenges of north Queensland seasons.
Reaching it's 20th year, Pocket Creek Stud has quietly bred Paint & Quarter Horses for new owners to train, compete and enjoy. With a focus on temperament and soundness, they have made rewarding 'weekend warrior' mounts, yet have the bloodlines, foundation and capability to take the competitive owner to the top of their chosen sport. From reining, to campdrafting, hacking to ranch, rodeo to polocrosse, the Pocket Creek horses have proven they have the trainability and style to be enjoyed by all who are lucky enough to own one.

Jennifer Wainwright - Founder
I can remember being deathly scared of horses as a kid. Growing up on a station in Central Queensland, I began riding at a very early age - you learned to keep up and keep on! I didn't really get to indulge in horses for recreation until I left university - at which point, I knew little, and could afford little. I began with foundation mares - the kind of rough diamonds that teach you things that put you in good stead for any challenges ahead: character and patience; timing and feel. But most of all, a desire to get just a little bit better each day. Each year. Each decade.
After uni I began playing Polocrosse and dabbling with friends in the disciplines of roping, reining, cutting... I was a sponge for all things western horses. I studied bloodlines, worked as a volunteer at Challenges and AQHA Sales, and collected plenty of 'horses with potential' to learn all I could. I grew very fond of just being amongst the characters, of not just a way of life, but an incurable passion.
Having a professional career away from the saddle to juggle, I became keen to breed horses for people like me - the 'weekend warrior'. Horses that meant you could be just as competitive on the weekend (or have just as much fun and be safe), even if you had little chance to ride during the week. This focus has underwritten the herd I have today; their temperament and talent is a testament to believing that
what your mind can conceive, you can achieve.
Today, I am gratefully surrounded by quality horses, whom have truly become family and the stories of many happy new owners who are enjoying life, riding my brand.
